I studied English Literature, Theatre Studies and a Diploma of Education at The University of Western Australia (1994-1998) since which time I have worked as an English teacher and Head of English in a range of Western Australian and UK schools. I received an MA in Education from St Mary’s College UK (1997), and a Graduate Diploma of Law from BPP Law School, UK (2013).

I worked at an outstanding CE School from 2008-2014 where I held roles of Head of Lower School and Assistant Head Teacher. Here I qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher and worked extensively with education authorities and other London secondary schools as a consultant to support the training of newly qualified teachers and to support other Heads of English with curriculum development.

I am a lead Examiner for GCSE English Literature and have held the position of moderator for A level English Literature coursework for another exam board since 2005. I also work as an external assessor (mock examinations) for GCSE English Language for a range of schools in the north west.

I studied BA (joint honours) English and Dance with Theatre Studies atThe University ofBirmingham (1999-2002) since which time I have worked in a number of different senior roles in both primary and secondary schools in London, UK. I qualified to teach in the UK in 2003 and gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2004. I received a PGDipCert in the psychology of Education from the Institute of Education, London (2007), and qualified via the Future Leaders Programme (UK) for fast track to Headship.

I worked at an outstanding CE School from 2003-2010 where I held a number of roles: Head of dance, Head of KS3 and Head of Year (8,9,10) and Assistant Head Teacher. Here, I taught English, Dance and Drama from KS3-5 and worked to ensure that the delivery of examination syllabi was effective. Following this, I transferred to the senior team of 2 further London secondary schools, leading on behaviour management, safeguarding, evaluating teaching and learning- ensuring best practice and securing improved outcomes for pupils. I also worked for a year in a Special School developing specific plans and curriculum for pupils with additional learning needs. I have specific expertise in ensuring pupils with disabilities or additional needs achieve highly and can access the school curriculum with appropriate support.

I then re-trained in the UK primary sector, joining the prestigious chools chain and most recently, led a school in Hastings as Headteacher.

I studied for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Jesus College, Oxford and a Master of Education degree at Homerton College, Cambridge. I then worked for ten years in UK secondary schools, becoming a Head of English and then Assistant Headteacher.

As Head of English I led a large team of colleagues through significant curriculum change, and contributed to a three year trend of rising results at GCSE and strong A Level results. In my most recent role I had overall responsibility for whole school curriculum design, timetabling and assessment. I have also been senior mentor for PGCE students and newly qualified teachers.

I have delivered training to large groups of teachers on topics such as raising standards in English, curriculum change, stretching more able students, and supporting students in Oxbridge applications.

For the last year I’ve been studying full time for a second Masters while acting as a freelance consultant to English departments, and a senior examiner for GCSE English Literature. I am an Ofqual subject expert, a teacher misconduct panellist for the UK Department for Education and I write regularly for UK newspaper The Guardian about education.

I studied English Literature (BA Hons) at Cardiff University. Following this, I completed the Teach First Leadership Development Programme and was awarded PGCE with Distinction from Canterbury Christ Church University. I have worked at two Outstanding schools, one in London where I held a responsibility for KS4 progress in the English Department and the other where I lead on Initial Teacher Training and Provision for the Most Able students. I am currently an Assistant Headteacher at an academy in London; leading on English, Literacy and Enrichment.

As an English specialist, I have taught from KS3 to A Level Literature. I am currently working as an examiner for an English Language specification. This involves reviewing the new specification and curriculum requirements as well as working with colleagues to ensure assessment happens consistently.

I have worked as a consultant for a training charity, designing and delivering aspects of their Initial Teacher Training programme.

I spent more than 20 years in a selective school, teaching English Language and Literature to GCSE and A level. As Head of Department, I was involved in developing and overseeing the delivery of schemes of work. I also ensured that all marking was standardised, in order to maintain a consistency of assessment. A major part of my role was in mentoring and training new teachers, both those learning to teach and those newly qualified. I am also a senior examiner for one of the major UK exam boards.

I qualified in 1991 as a teacher of English from the London Institute of Education and worked at an Islington school from 1991- 2007 as a classroom teacher, middle leader and at senior leadership level. I line managed the English Faculty, the Pastoral Teams and led on school improvement and action planning.

Since 2007, I have had extensive experience in primary and secondary schools and multi academy trusts across London and throughout the UK. I have taught A/S and A2 English Literature and am currently delivering one to one lessons for the IGCSE and running an alternative English and Nurture programme. My most recent substantive role was as a headteacher of a primary school in East Sussex and I have extensive experience in strategic planning, meeting agreed targets and supporting teachers and support staff to enable them to make improvements. I have worked as an education consultant, an interim headteacher and senior leader and, most recently, as a coach and mentor to support primary and secondary school teachers improve in all areas of their planning, assessment and class teaching.

I am firmly committed to raising achievement for all. My background as a teacher of English from Years 7-13 and as a Senior Deputy Head responsible for pastoral care and inclusion has enabled me to experience first hand the daily challenges faced by teachers and pupils.This has enabled me to question and focus the expectations of class based staff and senior teams to develop strategies and tools to make positive changes quickly. I am passionate about giving support to senior leadership teams and class teachers to provide the very best ‘daily diet’ for pupils in the classroom.

I graduated in 2003 with a degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a teacher through Christchurch College Canterbury.  I taught English at an outstanding school and worked as Pastoral Head of Year 11. I then became Head of KS4 English and Head of A-Level Media Studies at an International school where I also taught IB English.  I was also Head of KS3 and Head of KS4 English at an independent school in London. I have prepared students for Oxbridge Entry in all of my schools. Whilst living in Bosnia, I taught English and Pedagogy at the International Burch University of Sarajevo. Recently I have been working as a Teaching Consultant at an international school in Vilnius in Lithuania focusing on Middle School Curriculum, Whole School Literacy, and coaching individual teachers. I am passionate about helping teachers to achieve excellent learning in their classrooms and enjoy helping schools to design effective and creative curricula.

I studied English Literature, Philosophy and Music at the University of Port Elizabeth, South Africa (1995-1998) where I obtained a BA Honours degree (cum laude) before being awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to complete her Masters in English Literature at Leeds University in 2000. I received her GTP from Cambridge University in 2002 and currently teaches English at a leading Independent Girls’ School in Manchester.

Over the past years I have held roles of Head of General Studies, Head of PSHE and am currently Head of Year 7. I have has taught both  GCSE and IGCSE as well as having specialised in A Level English Language for both UK examining boards. She has worked as a Team Leader and examiner for GCSE  English Literature for the past 12 years.

I am a Lead Writer/Principal Examiner for 2 UK major examination boards for A level English literature and International GCSE ESL English language. I designed the current iGCSE specification and am a member of Ofqual’s Panel of English Experts. I am also Lead Writer for Pearson ESOL and am a senior examiner for GCSE English literature.

For more than 20 years, I have been an English programme leader in a successful school in England. I am a visiting lecturer at Newcastle University and presents staff training on English courses for a variety of awarding organisations and training providers.

I have authored several A level and GCSE study guides and textbooks for Oxford University Press. I have written extensively for The English Review, English and Media Centre, OUP Education blog and AudioPi. He holds a BA(hons) in English literature and also PGCE (Secondary English), graduating from Newcastle University in 1995.
